 It is on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 that was revealed the list of the 50 best restaurants in the world, return on the final ranking

Unlike the Michelin Guide, which imposes specific criteria for the awarding of its stars, such as the quality of ingredients, mastery of cooking, the personality of the chef, or the quality/price ratio, to establish the list of the 50 best restaurants in the world, the experts are interested not only in gastronomy, but also in the discovery of ingredients, new techniques used by the chef...

It was on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 in Bilbao that was revealed the list of the 50 best restaurants in the world, back on the final ranking, with the winners, and the losers! 

Osteria Francescana restaurant, big winner 2018!

A little déjà vu! Already crowned in 2016 in New York, the Italian chef's restaurant Massimo Bottura takes back its title of best restaurant in the world, won last year by a Swiss chef, Daniel Humm, with its restaurant Eleven Madison Park located in New York.

The establishment Osteria Francescana three-starred restaurant run by the Italian Massimo Bottura located in Modena in Italy's Emilia-Romagna region, has won the coveted title of best restaurant in the world for the second time.

A distinction that is reflected in the bill, in 2016 the Osteria Francescana, displayed menus between 120 and 200 euros, which then rose to 250 and 270 euros the tasting menu, the price of fame.

Tops and flops to remember from Ranking 2018

Two establishments hold the supreme prize: 5 titles for the Spanish restaurant El Bulli, 4 for the Danish Noma.

As for the top 50, there were few changes. There are 8 restaurants that enter the top 50, among them the restaurant Odette in Singapore that makes a dramatic rise from 86th place in 2017 to 28th place today, a rise of 58 places!

We also note that 17 new restaurants enter the Ranking from the 51st to the 100th place, a significant increase compared to last year when there were only 12 new entries.

Logically, this means that 17 restaurants leave the second part of the Ranking from 51st to 100th place, including 4 in France: La Grenouillère in La Madelaine-sous-Montreuil, and Le Cinq, Le Chateaubriand, and l'Épicure in Paris.

Disappointment on the French side

The French are not very present in this Ranking, there are only 5 restaurants in the first 50 of the Ranking and 6 among the 100!

The performance of the Mirazur restaurant in Menton, run by the Argentinean chef Mauro Colagreco, 3rd in the Ranking, and the 8th place of the first French chef in the Ranking, chef Alain Passard with l'Arpège, are also noteworthy.

Yannick Alléno also moved up 2 places, from 31st place in 2017 to 29th place in the current Ranking.

However, we also note the loss of 8 places for the prestigious Plaza Athénée, run by the chef Alain Ducasse, and 5 places for the Septime of Bertrand Grébaud. As for L'Astrance, it leaves the top 50, falling 6 places.

However, the honorary title of best pastry chef in the world goes this year to Cédric Grolet working at the Crillon in Paris, succeeding the two other Frenchmen Dominique Ansel (2017) and Pierre Hermé (2016).
